John Casey ( born in Salem 1964, works in Oakland ) will present his third solo show at Polaris this November,

If in his precedent work, John was obsessed with fictitious human morphology, which he explores in his ink drawings and small sculptures, his new work ( under the title Okay, Not Okay !!) continue to be as a series of psychological studies — self-portraits of the artist’s inner psyche in all of its multifaceted incarnations.

Some sad, some horrific, and some whimsical, these characters evoke responses from laughter and sympathy to disgust and discomfort. While one might call Casey’s work the exorcising of inner demons, his creations inspire more empathy than they do loathing. By depicting the grotesque as pitiable, John Casey illuminates the darkest corners of the mind, seeking redemption for all of us. Certainly Casey’s world should be the way we see worlds.

Created by Bernard Utudjian, Polaris Gallery is one of the first contemporary art gallery of this area of Le Marais, in Paris. The new space rue des Arquebusiers, ( incredible array of contemporary talent between this street and rue Saint-Claude) was inaugurated in 2009, (The development was confided to Odile Decq, architect of recent Museum of Contemporary Art in Roma ( Macro) . Polaris made the very first solo exhibitions of the main artists represented, and is always open to emerging and newest tendencies in art. John Casey (born in Salem 1964, works in Oakland (USA)) is obsessed with fictitious human morphology, which he explores in his ink drawings and small sculptures. Considered as one of the most interesting of the «enfants terribles« from the Ouest Coast, his works seem at first glance, to portray a menagerie of deformed creatures. A collective analysis reveals this array of oddball creations to be a series of psychological studies — self-portraits of the artist’s inner psyche in all of its multifaceted incarnations.
