Picturae is the latin for “paintings”. Over the centuries, the meaning of the word has developed from illumination to “painting” as the work of a painter.

Picturae refers to the image: figurative as well as abstract parts of the real world. From the cave arts until present days, painting hasn’t run out of steam. In France, painting was snubbed for a period of time and specialists even proclaimed its death. It has however never worn out and  has even registered an actual boom during the last decade.

Picturae claims to be trans-generational and multi-faceted.

The exhibition curated by the young french curator in the spotlight Julie Crenn gathers together six brilliant artists that everyone should follow, whose works demonstrate both the vitality and the wealth of contemporary painting in France :

Raphaël Barontini, Marcos Carrasquer, Coraline de Chiara, Vanessa Fanuele, Muriel Rodolosse and Lionel Sabatté.
