Rodin discovered the Hôtel Biron thanks to Rainer Maria Rilke. He started to organise the principle of a sculpture garden by exhibiting part of his fabulous collection of antiquities in the park, and enjoyed arranging the interior into a kind of “bric-à-brac” with his works, paintings, furniture and drawings, revealing hints and fragments of an imaginary museum that expanded secretly.

In keeping with the wishes of Rodin, the purpose of the institution is to make his work known throughout the world. The museum presents to the public the artist’s collections and the new acquisitions by organising exhibitions, as well as educational and cultural activities in France and other countries.
